Key Role:
Analyze and conflate information associated with feature data within the Geographic Names Database (GNDB). Prepare files and maps for work, accurately entering data to maintain and update the GNDB. Respond to questions concerning the proper and correct usage of names, various Romanization systems, and other descriptive information related to Geographic Names, policies, and procedures. Interpret and apply national and international policies governing the treatment of names and general guidelines coming from the US Board on Geographic Names and other related organizations. Use the Geographic Names Processing System (GNPS), charts, imagery, and geospatial tools to refine names information.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: -1 year of experience with using ArcGIS or GeoMedia Pro software and common office business software, including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and Internet browsers-Experience with regional toponymy, specializing in one of the following: Russian, Greek, Arabic, Farsi, Korean, French, Spanish, Thai, Albanian, Serbian, Hebrew, Arabic, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indian, Bangladeshi, Indonesian, Mandarin Chinese, Uzbek, Pashto, or Dari language-Experience with Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Level 2 for Reading in the last 2 years-TS/SCI clearance-HS diploma or GED-GIS Certification
Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
