Court Interpreter/Translator (Various Languages) - Torden - New Bedford, MA
Translators shall be proficient in translating all manner of materials and possess extensive subject knowledge, in keeping with the broad range of subject matter. Transcription services include transcribing recordings of interviews, phone calls, testimony, etc., which may be in audio or video recording format, into text.
Language requirements include, but are not limited to: Portuguese, Spanish, Albanian, Arabic,Armenian, Belarusian, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Creole, Czech, Danish, Dari, Dutch, Estonian, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kinyarwandan, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Moldovan, Norwegian, Pashtu, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Somali, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdi, Vietnamese, Yiddish
There are three positions categories which Torden is seeking to fill:
Reviewer/Editor/Certifier
Essential Job Duties:
Source Material review and summarization
Provide quality control review of translated documents
Transcription of foreign language material
Provide on-the-spot gist and summaries of foreign documents into English
Qualifications:
Must possess a broad academic and/or experience background
Must have minimum of 5 years of specific language experience within last 10 years
Must possess superior skills in English and editing
Must be U.S. citizen
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite
Personnel are subject to the security clearance requirements
Current SECRET clearance is preferred
Translator
Essential Job Duties:
Provide full, technically and linguistically accurate rendition of source materials. Source materials may contain legal, business, public administrative, medical, scientific, historical, financial, geographical and military terminology and concepts, including those dealing with technology as used in the sciences (chemical, physical, cyber, etc.). The specialized terminology used to express concepts in any of the given subject areas vary considerably from everyday usage in any of the target or source languages in question.
Qualifications:
Must have minimum of 2 years of experience in all phases of language translations
Must have passing scores on language/translation tests of the FBI, other Government agencies, or qualified professional organizations
Must be U.S. citizen
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite
Personnel are subject to the security clearance requirements
Current SECRET clearance is preferred
Interpreter
Essential Job Duties:
Provide the verbal rendering of speech from the target language and English and vice-versa.
Interpreters shall be proficient in performing simultaneous, consecutive, and escort interpretation defined as follows:
Simultaneous interpretation requires the interpreter to speak almost contemporaneously with the speaker whose words are being interpreted, without any pauses since both interpreter and speaker are talking at virtually the same time.
Consecutive interpretation requires pauses on the part of both the interpreter and the speaker: the speaker will utter a sentence, phrase or thought, and then the interpreter will usually signal for the speaker to pause so that the interpreter can translate what was just said.
Escort interpreting requires an interpreter to accompany a non-English-speaking visitor as he/she conducts official business with the U.S. Government.
Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in language interpretation (i.e. consecutive, simultaneous)
Specialized training in the interpreting field and/or extensive experience in court or legal environments
Must possess passing scores on language/interpreting tests of the FBI, Department of State, other Government agencies, or qualified professional organizations
Ability to speak English and target language fluently, including high to low levels of language register, regional colloquialisms and slang with clear and intelligible pronunciation
Ability to preserve the tone and emotional level of the speaker, as well as manage the delivery, speed and length of the statement of the speaker
Must be U.S. citizen
Personnel are subject to the security clearance requirements
Current SECRET clearance is preferred
Federal, State, National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators, or Judiciary Interpreters and Translators Certification Examination certification in interpretation is preferred
Experience providing interpretation for Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review court cases is a plus
