SUBJECT: CULINARY ARTS/BAKING & PASTRY INSTRUCTOR – CHAPTER 74 VOCATIONAL ED. PROGRAM GRADES 9-12
ANTICIPATED START DATE: August 25, 2016
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
This position is accountable for teaching and supervising students of the Culinary Arts Department in the Baking and Pastry rotation through the state frameworks and curriculum disciplines under the direction of the Department Head.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for the development and implementation of departmental curriculum objectives and competencies.
2. Responsible for the integration of the department’s curriculum where appropriate.
3. Responsible for providing equal educational and employment opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, national origin, gender identity, or disability.
4. Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Massachusetts teacher’s licensure in Baking & Pastry Vocational Technical program – Chapter 74 or ability to obtain within 1 year.
2. Evidence of mastery of a wide variety of teacher competencies and the understanding of instructional techniques.
3. Demonstrated skill and working knowledge of breads and rolls, quickbreads, cookies, pies, cakes and icings, pastries, and desserts.
4. Demonstrated skill and working knowledge of dessert plating and cake decorating.
5. Evidence of supervisory experience for food service (kitchens/bakeshops) operations.
6. Extensive experience in computers to include the following: Microsoft Office, Microsoft 8 and 10, and Point-of-Sales operations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Advanced educational preparation
2. Evidence of educational leadership.
3. Curriculum development experience and knowledge of integration of technical competencies with curriculum frameworks.
4. Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs
5. Ability to speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Albanian, Portuguese, Arabic or an African Language.
WORK YEAR: Teachers’ work year and work day
SALARY: Appropriate step on vocational teachers’ salary schedule
