Primary Language Tutors - DeKalb #428 - DeKalb, IL
Hours: Approximately 5-10 hours per week
Requirements: Must be legally able to work within the United States. Must be fluent in the language of need both in written and oral communication.
Description: A primary language tutor is employed when a student speaking a language other than English requires native language instruction. The PLT translates key concepts from the general classroom teacher to the English Language Learner. The PLT may also translate notes home to parents for the teacher.
The idea when utilizing the service of a primary language tutor is to make sure the student is learning the academic content in his or her native language as he or she learns English.
PLTs work at Jefferson Elementary, Clinton Rosette Middle School, and/or DeKalb High School during school hours. The schedule is set by the ESL teacher at each building.
PLTs translate instructions and information from the classroom teacher for the student. He/she also explains concepts that the student may be struggling with.
Salary: $8.25 per hour
Reports to: Building Principals
