Stratus Video InPerson Interpreter (freelance)

REQUIRED – MUST HAVE 3 YEARS OF MEDICAL INTERPRETING EXPERIENCE TO APPLY

Summary: the freelance InPerson Interpreter will facilitate communication for limited English proficient (LEP) community members and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of medical settings. This on-site InPerson position is flexible and an opportunity to expand your interpreting business.Stratus InPerson helps you communicate regardless of language or cultural barrier. Languages Desired: Albanian, Amharic, Burmese, Bengali, Dari, Farsi, French, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Kinyarwanda, Nepali, Pashto, Portuguese, Romanian, Somali, Swahili, Telugu, Tigrigna, Turkish, Urdu, Ukrainian

**While these are the top languages needed at this time, interpreters of all language specializations are encouraged to apply**

InPerson Interpreter Responsibilities:

• Provide effective on-site InPerson interpreting service for consumers.


• Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined by Stratus Interpreting


• Exhibit professional behavior at all times including punctuality and preparedness for shifts, respectful andcollaborative integration with colleagues and timely record keeping


• Maintain respectful and collaborative interaction with colleagues and supervisors, and timely and accurate record keeping


• Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies


• Pass screening before taking InPerson commitments


• Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context (i.e. hospitals, courts, schools, etc.)

Spoken Language Minimum Qualifications:

• Fluent and have strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language (i.e., French-to-English or vice-a-versa)


• Must have a minimum of 3 years of in person medical interpreting experience, within a hospital or clinical settingCredentialed in medical interpreting (i.e.: Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40 hour accredited medical courses) – preferred but not required


• Proven medical training with certification, certificate or license is preferred but not required


• Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.


• Respect for and understanding of our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences as it relates to legal procedures.


• Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC)


• Familiarity with the medical profession and its privacy laws (HIPAA) as well as other state and federals laws applied to medical interpreting. Spoken Language

Desired Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of in person medical interpreting experience, within a hospital or clinical setting


• Degree or certifications in interpreting practices


• Specialized certifications or training in medical interpreting strongly preferred
