Language Instructor - VL247 - Syracuse, NY

VL247 is hiring qualified native speakers of any language and culture to facilitate language training to a diverse range of students. Classes take place online in a live, virtual school environment and candidates are required to have computer and technical proficiency. Additional minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree; native fluency in the language; and basic English language skills. Further, it is preferred that applicants possess knowledge and understanding of the ILR proficiency scale (Interagency Language Roundtable). • Equivalent of four (4) years full-time experience in cryptologic Operations performing language processing.

• In lieu of the Bachelor’s Degree an additional four (4) years of directly related, applied, practical work experience may be substituted.

• At least three (3) of the four (4) years experience shall be in translating and/or transcribing, and gisting.

• One (1) year experience typing on an English keyboard.

• Ten years of native language experience and full mastery of the language (oral fluency and literacy) and full understanding of the cultural heritage.

• Full command of contemporary vocabulary, grammar, and syntax of the required language(s), abreast of idioms, colloquialisms, and slang; and, a sophisticated understanding of the cultural, social, and political environment in which the language is used.

• Sufficient English skills to produce accurate gists, translations, and reports in American English.

Eligibility list with grades and attendance at the start of each season. Adhering to the policies and procedures of the coach handbook.

Qualifications

Representative Job Duties


Provide accurate interpretation for patients, family, and staff during visits to the Center.


Assist in registration, financial application process, and explanation of other center procedures. Schedules appointments as needed.


Maintain confidentiality of patient’s personal and medical information.


Report to Director any problems, suggestions and concerns.


Ability to maintain rapport with patients and medical staff.


Act as a cultural broker and communicate patient’s social and cultural needs as they relate to the medical history. Comprehensive knowledge of referral network.


Uses appropriate methods to communicate with providers regarding patient’s concerns, schedule, and cancellation.


Verify patient’s appointments as needed. Makes referrals and notifies patient of appointment.


Performs conference calls with simultaneous translations.


Provides written translation of correspondence between provider and patient.


Provides written translation of educational materials.


Makes phone notes documentation in EPIC on an as needed basis.


Maintains appropriate continuing education on trends in medical interpretation.


Assumes other duties as required.
